How It Started
This effort came out of a commitment my friend Bonnie and I had to help three girls: an 11 year old named Duyen, Hong 14 and Hang 16, whom we met in July 2008 at an orphanage in Vietnam. I was touched and scared by Duyen’s plea to call me Mom since adoption wasn’t an option. I later came to realize that it didn’t matter. These kids needed someone to call Mom or Dad, even if we were halfway around the world. Talking and sending an email to a few friends and colleagues in Sep 09 were met with an overwhelming positive response and has been the catalyst for the Big Big World Project, Inc. a 501(c)3 nonprofit. I am especially passionate about helping the older girls who are most vulnerable to the sex trade that is rampant in this part of Asia.
